Peter Stiegler’s dream of owning his own restaurant began during his hotel school days in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria. After first working in Austria, his dream took him to Vail, Colorado and then to Jackson Hole, where his brother, Olympic champion Pepe Stiegler was the Ski School Director of the newly formed Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Jackson Hole seemed the perfect place to open Peter’s Austrian/Continental restaurant as it is reminiscent of his homeland and Jackson is the sister city to Peter’s hometown of Lienz, Austria. Opening in the fall of 1983, Stiegler’s Restaurant features typical Austrian veal, pork and wild game favorites as well as continental entrees influenced by the ethnic cuisine of Hungary, Italy and Czechoslovakia. Peter’s philosophy has been to recognize the equal importance of a cozy atmosphere, professional service and consistent, quality cooking and combine them in a setting where you are never a customer, but a guest in our home.
